September 11, 2014
In this collection of questions and answers, The Roar profiles new staff members on campus to learn more about these unfamiliar faces.
Q: What did you want to be growing up?
A: When I was six or seven, I wanted to be a hair dresser, but by the end of high school I wanted to be a child psychologist. In college at UC Berkeley, I didn’t have the study skills necessary for classes like chemistry, so I changed my major from science to social science. When I finished college, I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I moved to San Francisco and worked as a secretary at UCSF before becoming a teacher.
Q: What’s your coffee order?
A: Depending on my mood, I’ll go for an iced coffee or a latte. If it’s hot, and when I’m feeling spicy, I’ll get a chai latte.
Q: What were you involved in during high school?
A: I was junior class vice president and the worst tennis player on the JV team.
Q: What’s a typical outfit for high school-era Ms. Warren?
A: A typical outfit had tight, wide-legged jeans with a high waist, tight scoop-neck shirts, and Candies shoes. In the 80s, other girls wore leg warmers and headbands with heavy makeup, though I never did personally.
Q: Who’s your favorite musician?
A: I enjoy jazz percussionists like Cal Tjader, Jimi Hendrix, Ella Fitzgerald and Chet Baker
Q: Who’s your favorite celebrity?
A: I’m not into most of the new celebrities. I enjoy more of the classic movie stars like Gregory Peck.
Q: What’s your most memorable teaching experience?
A: I’m a certified bilingual teacher with Spanish and English. In one of my classes, years ago, we used to argue over pronunciations of Spanish words. To this day I still remember arguing with a student named Francisco. He probably doesn’t remember it at all but it’s stuck with me all these years.
