Who’s behind @SC_Bruins?

Daniel Huynh and Mei Lian Coble

Santa Clara High School is now tweeting campus news under @SC_Bruins. No Twitter account is needed to see the feed – it’s also posted on SCHS’s School Loop home page. Here we catch up with vice-principal Tony Lam to find out more about @SC_Bruins.

SC Roar: Do you manage the school’s Twitter account?

Tony Lam: Several different staff members manage the school’s Twitter account, including myself, Mr. Shelby, Mr. Vela and Mrs. Henry.

SCR: Why Twitter? Does the school plan to create and/or use more social media such as Facebook and Tumblr?

TL: We do not intend to use further social media such as Facebook, as we only intend to use one-way contact. We are giving out the information as opposed to interacting with the students with commenting.

SCR: Who came up with the idea of the school using social media?

TL: I started it at my old school, as well as managed it. So when I came here, I thought it would be a great idea if we were able to communicate with our students.

SCR: Do you know of any plans, in the future, to change the school website ?

TL: There’re no particular plans in the future. In fact, some of the other schools seem to be copying our layout.
