The SCHS softball team kicked off the season with a 9-5 win against the Willow Glen Rams Friday night.

Throughout the game, SCHS held up a solid defense and offense, ending the first inning at 2-3. However, it was the second inning that was the game-changer, with Willow Glen scoring one run and SCHS scoring five. SCHS held up their successes until the end.

“We hit the ground running this season,” head coach John Rahbar said. Rahbar added that the win against Willow Glen is a good preview of what he expects the rest of the season to look like.

“We’re definitely practicing more than last year,” catcher Natasha Sachdeva said. “But it’s not just that: we’re communicating better, we’re more cohesive as a team.”

“Besides,” Sachdeva added, grinning, “everyone’s showing up on time this year.”

Rahbar also said that Kathryn Caravalho was the MVP of the match, a sentiment her teammates loudly agreed with. “We had some great pitching from her,” Rahbar said.

Caravalho is a freshman who made varsity this year as a pitcher. She described the win as “exciting,” and expressed hope at having a winning season, in contrast to last year, which resulted in SCHS’s drop to the El Camino Division.

“The entire team did great,” Rahbar said. “We’ve really improved since last year.”
