The dance team returns

This year, SC has introduced its students to new faces, new classes, and a new dance team.

After a hiatus that resulted from the search for a coach, the Dance Team has returned with yearbook teacher Kristina Kashanian once again serving as their coach.

“Right now we are getting ready for rallies and football games,” said Kashanian.

The group is currently composed of nine students, eight of them juniors and a lone senior. Class of 2012 alumnae Sydney Fenton, who was the team captain her senior year and now dances with the San Jose Saberkittens, assists Kashanian.

Fenton said that the current team is bigger than when she was in high school, when there were only six members.

To raise money for its activities, the club is relying on fundraisers and donations.

Unlike cheerleading, the team focuses primarily on dancing routines.

Kashanian noted that the team is young and “has more time to be even stronger next year, although they are ready to perform and compete this year as well.”

The team does bonding sessions when they are not practicing. “It’s more than just a team: it’s a sisterhood,” said Bozant.
