Junior Jewel Bozant brings new energy to dance team

Junior Jewel Bozant has always danced to her own beat, whether that be in her ballet shoes, tap shoes or jazz shoes.

Starting as a dancer from a young age of 2 1/2 years, Bozant has danced a variety of dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop. Although she enjoys all styles, her favorite is jazz.

“It’s really spunky and I feel like I have more attitude when I dance jazz,” she said. Bozant is a part of SC’s dance team, and is described by fellow dancer Asia Chap as a very enthusiastic member. “She’s really good,” said Chap. “She always has energy, is very lively and knows how to move her body well,” she added.

The dance team was invited to attend a summer dance camp at Lincoln High School during the summer of 2013, at which Bozant was one of the 15 dancers to receive the “All-American Award,” a reward given to a few dancers for recognition for outstanding performance. Receiving this award has offered her the opportunity to perform in London and Hawaii in January of 2014.

Even though Bozant will not be performing in London, she and a few other members of the dance team will be representing SC in Hawaii next January. On the team, Bozant is praised for her positive energy and precise dance moves.

“[Bozant] is good at making sure she hits her moves super sharp, so everything is so clean when she dances. And she always performs. She has a big smile, so you can tell she is putting on a show,” said dance team instructor Kristina Kashanian.

However, Bozant thinks she is more of the diva in the group.“They even call me ‘Princess,’” she said.

In her future, Bozant wants to attend a university where she can do a double major in Business and Dance, as she hopes to open her own dance studio one day.

Dance will always remain a big part of Bozant’s life. According to Kashanian, she shines through in all of her moves.

“Do you know how Beyonce has her “Sash Fierce” side? That’s how I feel when I dance,” she said. “I come alive. I am not myself. I’m more of a diva version of myself.”
