On Monday, March 23, 2026, the SCHS varsity softball team played their ninth game of the season against the South San Francisco Warriors. They won the game 14-3, marking the fifth game they have won with 10 or more runs.
As preparation for the game, senior third baseman and shortstop Analisa Chavez shared what her team has been working on this season.
“I feel like (communication) is one thing that’s really key when we have our games. Everybody needs to talk and tell everybody where the play is and everything,” Chavez said.
In the first inning, the Bruins finished 6-0, with Chavez and junior center fielder Victoria Calvillo both scoring three runs. Senior co-captain Chloe Boyes had great reads on the pitcher, getting three walks and scoring two runs. During the second inning, the Bruins scored five more points and kept up with defense, not letting the Warriors score a single point.
Head coach Julie Kawamoto shared that the result of the game is not as important compared to the team’s development.
“It’s not so much about the wins and losses. It’s about how much we’re improving,” Kawamoto said. “I tell the girls, as long as they learn one thing every single day, they’re better. It’s just picking out those little things that will make each individual player better.”
Toward the end of the game, the Warriors managed to score three points against the Bruins. Not letting the points negatively affect them, the Bruins held their defence high and scored three points against the Warriors.
Calvillo explained how they stayed focused during the game.
“Just staying calm and collective when errors occur, don’t (let it) get in our heads and let it be a domino effect and just shake it off,” Calvillo said.
With a final score of 14-3, Kawamoto described how the team was supporting each other and keeping their heads in the game.
“They cheered each other on, which is super important. The girls are always really encouraging. It was just really good practice for the rest of this week,” Kawamoto said.
