U.S. history teacher Gwen Schneider went to high school in Colorado

This year, SCHS has welcomed many new staff members to the campus. In the accompanying q & a, we take a look at the high school experiences of U.S. History and Study Skills teacher Gwen Schneider, and learn a little bit more about her.

Q: What did you want to be growing up?

A: The girl version of Indiana Jones. I love archeology and history. I wanted to go travel and be an adventurer.

Q: What high school did you go to?

A: Heritage High School in Littleton, CO. I liked all of my different history classes, science classes, and playing volleyball.

Q: What advice would you give to your high school self?

A: Don’t try to grow up too quickly.

Q: What is your most memorable high school experience?

A: A senior prank, the students stuck forks in the ground and it froze overnight. It said “fork off Heritage High School.”

Q: Who is your favorite musician? Why?

A: David Bowie because he has evolved and no matter what time he has recorded, everything sounds good.

Q: What’s your favorite book? Why?

A: The Great Gatsby because I can read it every year and find something new.

Q: Who’s your favorite celebrity?

A:  Probably Stephen Colbert because he’s hilarious and he brings current issues to light.

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: Mochas are my guilty pleasure. I know I shouldn’t do it, but I do it. I’ve had coffee in the morning but I’ll still go to Starbucks and get that mocha. I always tell myself, “I’ll make sure I won’t go tomorrow.”

Q: What’s your most memorable teaching experience?

A: It’s probably when I do the Cultural Revolution. I do a Cultural Revolution activity where the kids get involved and actually replay the Cultural Revolution in the classroom.
