Snack shack caught on fire today during fifth period
A fire erupted at the snack shack near SCHS’s football field today at approximately 1 p.m.
No one was harmed and Santa Clara firefighters responded immediately, extinguishing the small blaze soon after, according to an autodial message the school sent to all SCHS parents the same afternoon.
Investigation is still in progress, but security guard John Nunes said that the fire appeared to begin in the girls restroom at the snack shack. SCHS secretary Monica Martinez said the school was investigating whether the fire began because of suspicious activity.
When the fire alarms went off, students and staff initially made their way to the backfield where they typically meet during a fire alarm, but were redirected towards the quad by vice principal Antonio Vela.
“I was in the music room and I was terrified,” junior Jervi Ranoy said.
Despite the confusion, English teacher Michelle Brown said the students took directions well after the alarm went off.
