The Bruins face off the Milpitas Trojans.

The players were lined up with their family and friends, waiting to make their way  to the center of the field and be honored for senior night–the last home game of their SCHS football careers.

After the team was congratulated, along with marching band and spirit squad seniors, the varsity football team prepared to face the Milpitas Trojans for their final game.

To the Bruins’ dismay, the first quarter ended with a score of 0-21, and at the end of the second quarter, the Trojans had already managed to raise the score deficit, making it 0-30.

Although the Bruins were down, they remained positive and continued fighting. The Bruins marching band, color guard, dance team and spirit squad were cheering along with fans in the stands, making sure the team kept their hopes high.

In the beginning of the third quarter, after an energizing pep-talk, the Bruins ran onto the field, roaring, with an appetite to even the score. However, the defensive line missed many tackles, and the offensive line was unable to score against the Trojans.

With 35 seconds remaining in the quarter, the Bruins were close to scoring. Quarterback Robert Green made it to the five yard line, where he was tackled by a Trojan. By the end of the third quarter, the Trojans scored their final touchdown, and the game ended a quarter early with a score of 0-43.

“All these seniors work their butts off in class and on the field. Today they showed on the field that they are strong and fight on,” said head coach Hank Roberts.

Although the Bruins lost their final game, all the athletes, especially the seniors, remained positive.

“Tonight, although we were here to fight and win, we were also here to have fun because we knew it’s the last game of our season and high school careers,” senior wide receiver Pako Vehikite said. “These guys are my family, and we were here to have a great time together.”

The team had hopes of winning  the game and many others during this season. However, things did not work out the way Roberts wanted, ending the season 2-8.

With this season over, Roberts looks forward to a better season next year. “We’ll be back in the weightroom come January and be working hard on our execution as well as other techniques,” Roberts said.
