New SCHS social science teacher Emily Roberts is a lover of helping others
History buff and sports enthusiast Emily Roberts is a recent addition to the Social Science Department. Although she is new to SCHS, Roberts has made quite an impression on her students. Roberts says she’s seen her share of student stress and does her best to make her students feel welcome to a safe and pleasant environment.
Not only is the fresh coffee aroma in the morning inviting to students, but the interactive lessons she plans keep them engaged.
“She is really interactive in teaching Psychology…and tries to make sure we understand the material,” senior Alisha Mehta said.
Influenced heavily by her own high school history teachers who “made history come alive” for her, Roberts was inspired to follow her passion and become a US History and Psychology teacher.
Roberts hopes students will seize every opportunity to learn and grow. Also, she wants students take away a lifelong love for learning and asking questions while remembering that their time in school is limited.
“Focus less on the things you think are dramatic.” Roberts said. “Realize that you only have four years to enjoy it and to not be so stressed out. When high school is over, you have to be an adult, and adulting is not fun. ”
Robert’s passion does not lie solely in helping students but all people and animals.
“I want to get involved with helping the homeless population,” Roberts said. “I’m really passionate about helping prevent human trafficking in the area and helping animals, too. I have two Boston Terriers, Beta and Grux; they’re my children, my fur children.”
Despite Roberts being at SCHS for only a few months, Mehta already sees her as positive addition.
“I think as her first year here she is doing an amazing job, and I hope she continues the momentum throughout the years,” Mehta said.
