SCHS student made profit through selling his “Shanepreme” shirts
In the business world, the simplest ideas can make large profits. SCHS junior Shane Kennedy Moore and his friends decided to turn a simple idea into a project: making his own shirts based off the brand Supreme.
Moore started photoshopping “Shanepreme” onto shirts and selling them.
Close friends and swimming teammates admired the design and bought shirts.
“I bought it to support my teammate. Then other people wanted to know where I got it,” sophomore Jason Hoang said. “I like how the shirts feel and how breathable they are.”
Moore’s humorous design attracted others.
“Originally, I was just going to make one for my friends and myself, but then random people came up to me saying, ‘It looks really cool. I want one,” Moore said. “So we were like, ‘Why not expand it into a business,’ and it took off from there.”
Students advertised the shirts by wearing them around campus. Once word got out, the shirts sold quickly, and the students made a profit.
“Honestly, creating the shirts was never about the money,” Moore said. “I just wanted people to be wearing my name. It’s funny, people I don’t even know have [one of my shirts].”
In the beginning, the group had thought about giving the shirts away for free but realized no one would wear the shirts then.
Shane Co. decided it was best for them to create and sell the shirts for a limited period of time.
“We sold a lot–at least a couple dozen,” Moore said. “We have stopped producing them, but we are still selling them. I figured we might as well go out on top.”
