New Vice Principal Teresa Posas is determined to help out and have an impact on the SCHS community.

After graduating from SCHS, Teresa Posas returns to campus as the new vice principal. With her value in the community, being involved and improving the lives of students and staff around her, Posas is excited to be back on campus.

As an adult, Posas is fulfilling her hope of coming back to SCHS by working with the team of vice principals. Posas supervises in technology assessment and attendance. She was thrilled to reconvene with the high school experience as she was ASB vice president, president of the Latino Club, a member of many other clubs and on the homecoming court.

“I had a blast in high school…getting involved… I had fun…especially my junior (and) senior years,” Posas said.

Before beginning her vice principal career, Posas led English Language Teaching, or ELT, and Spanish for ten years. Posas believes learning another language provides many benefits, even if it may seem difficult to tackle the idea of learning a new language. Posas explains a new language grants more opportunities to those in the workforce to help and connect within the community.

“One of my favorite parts of teaching Spanish is having those conversations. It’s the language and the food, but it’s also the culture, and the diversity of cultures, within our Spanish speaking community,” Posas said.

To balance out her day, Posas manages and supports students at school, and makes sure to spend time with her family. While at home, she enjoys spending time with her two kids, watching her children’s sports games and going for walks.

“I really believe that we (SCHS staff) need to have that work and family life balance without taking work home,” Posas said.

Posas did not predict that she would become a vice principal but felt open to the opportunity when it arose.

“So far I love it,” Posas said. “You always have to think of the why. Why do I want to do this? What drives you to want to be in this role?”

Posas encourages students and staff to be open to new opportunities, even if it is not in their original plan. She believes keeping one’s options open allows them to pursue their passions.

“Giving yourself options is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. No matter what your path is, it is having those options,” Posas said.
