The SCHS boys varsity basketball team advanced into the annual CCS Division II varsity basketball tournament quarter-final, where it lost against Los Altos.

The team started CCS the elimination rounds with a bang – fresh with confidence after winning its last three regular season games. They were given a bye in the first round since they were ranked the sixth seed with an 18-6 record.  In the second round, they knocked off Westmoor 70-55. In the quarter-final on March 1, they lost against Los Altos with the score 43 to 57.

Team members attributed this loss to a few mistakes such as turnovers, and the skill of their opponents. Despite this loss, they were grateful that they were able to make it this far in the tournament.

He said, “We knew that a lot of teams in Division II were competitive such as private schools like Mitty and Bellarmine. We were not thinking about winning but we definitely knew that we had a great chance.”

According to the team, their great experience and their practices are what lead them to advance into the quarter final of CCS. Some of their most fond memories include the preseason games, where they played numerous games with great comeback.

Point guard Ben Fales said, “One of our key spotlights this year is our match against Pinewood. We were down 16-17 points in the halftime and later we won the game by 3 points. This win motivated us to keep going on in the season.”
