After “Wicked” was released in 2024, many fans highly anticipated the premiere of the movie’s sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” on Nov. 21, 2025. Directed by John M. Chu, the movie is based on the broadway musical “Wicked,” which was inspired by the 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire that explored a different narrative of the well-loved original novel, “The Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum.
The plot of the musical is split between the two movies to honor the details within the first and second act, and “Wicked: For Good” brings in a further in-depth connection to “The Wizard of Oz,” creating an epic finale to the two-movie series. Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda Upland the Good and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp, otherwise known as the Wicked Witch of the West, the movie’s 2 hours 18 minutes explores friendship, self-identity, prejudice and a small love triangle.
The movie starts by reintroducing Elphaba after she was villainized by the society of Oz and her quest to show them the true identity of the Wizard they all claim is their hero. Banding together with Prince Fiyero and Glinda, they face betrayal, challenges, and most importantly, learning to stand up for their own beliefs.
“Wicked: For Good” also delves into the story of “The Wizard of Oz,” introducing how and why Dorothy ended up in Oz, how the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion came to be, and Elphaba’s reasons for wanting to chase down Dorothy.
The story also mainly revolves around the developing friendship between Glinda and Elphaba. Glinda, known to all in Oz as their hero, and Elphaba, viewed by almost everyone as the villain, have struggles maintaining their friendship due to their differences, contradicting perspectives and societal expectations.
“Wicked: For Good” ends with a satisfactory happily-ever-after for almost all the characters, with the Wizard of Oz and Madame Morrible being sent to justice after being exposed as corrupt and fraudulent.
Along with the conclusion of the series’ plot, the sequel also features a new soundtrack. “For Good,” “Wonderful,” “No Place Like Home” and “No Good Deed” are only a few of the newly-published songs from “Wicked: For Good.” With catchy tunes and lyrics, they definitely rival the tracks from “Wicked.”
“Wicked: For Good” is absolutely worth the trip to the movie theater. The movie is also available to buy digitally and will be released from theaters near the end of December 2025. Full of plot twists, hilarious scenes, tragedy, romance and the journey of Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship, it is truly a captivating film and provides viewers with an interesting plot to dive into.

OMG I love Wicked.
My opinion is that whenever someone dresses up as a witch, a witch hat is vital.
Rachel, what are your thoughts on witch hats?
