School board announces Angela Kretsch as new vice principal of activities

Angela Mercado Kretsch, class of 2000, was announced as the new vice principal of activities at SCHS at the SCUSD board meeting Thursday night.

Assistant superintendent Andrew Lucia introduced Kretsch with her qualifications and former positions at the various middle and elementary schools she has worked at. Kretsch has coached track and cross country at SCHS and has taught leadership in middle school.

Lucia also added that Kretsch has initiated and implemented anti-bullying campaigns at the schools she has worked at.

The administrative position opened up when former vice principal of activities Chandra Henry moved to Wilcox High School to become vice principal of discipline.

Many students were sad to hear Henry was going, including ASB president Katie Patterson who said losing Henry was bittersweet.

“It will certainly be different without her, but I’m really excited to welcome Kretsch back to SCHS,” Patterson said. “She’ll be an incredible vice principal.”

Principal Greg Shelby agrees, and said Kretsch “stood out” amongst those who applied for the position. He also acknowledged that she would be fantastic for the job after going through “extensive interviews” with two main candidates.

“She’s very intelligent, organized, and has deep ties with SCHS,” Shelby said. “She has the right energy and personality to make a good administrator.”

Since Kretsch still holds a position at another district, her start date has not yet been confirmed, but according to ASB secretary Patrice Anderson, her start will be in less than three weeks.
