Bruins football team beat the Eagles at senior night

The Bruins football team won Friday night with a 40-10 win against the Los Altos Eagles. The win sets them at a 9-1 record for the season and a 6-0 league record, with their only loss being against Wilcox.

The Bruins led 21-10 after the second quarter, then shut out the Eagles the rest of the game, extending the lead to 40-10.

Quarterback Chris Brown threw two touchdown passes to running back Pako Vehikite and one to wide receiver Marquise Shields. Running back Andrew Del Rosario also rushed for three touchdowns and scored on a two-point rush.

Before the game, the team honored the 18 seniors on their last regular season game.

“It really hit us. It’s been four years. We knew we had to come out hard tonight,” senior linebacker Caleb Liu said.

After their victory, the Bruins celebrated by dumping water on coach Hank Roberts.

“It was cold, but I’m happy,” Roberts said. “It’s tradition to dump water on the head coach after you win a championship.”

By winning the league championship, the Bruins are guaranteed a game against North Salinas High School at the Division IV CCS Playoffs.

Senior Adel Berhane attributed the winning season to the team’s growth in unity. Roberts also added that these seniors are “some of the best kids I’ve ever met.”

Despite having to lose almost half the team next year, Roberts ignores this fact for now. “I’m more focused on next week, next month, not next year,” Roberts said.

The team plays at North Salinas High for the Division IV CCS Playoffs this Friday at 5 p.m.
