SCHS adds two new water fountains to the campus

Last winter, SCHS installed new water stations in the gym and in the B-Hall outside the Student Body Office. Recently, two more water stations were installed: one at the intersection of the D-Hall and Bruin Alley, and one in the cafeteria.

The water fountains were constructed both to reduce plastic water bottle usage at SCHS and to replace the old fountains, which were often filled with dirt and trash and eventually deemed “unsanitary,” according to principal Gregory Shelby.

Digital counters on the water stations display how many water bottles students have saved from the waste stream. Currently, the counters on the year-old stations are at around 30,000 each.

“Parents and students have been noticing that the usage justifies [the new water stations],” Shelby said. “They’re using it, so in turn they’ll get more.”

Junior Athena Perez, who is a part of SCHS’s winter guard and track and field team, said that the water stations will “definitely make a difference” when she’s at practice.

“It’ll be really convenient for us,” Perez said. “I’m glad we have them.”
